Musings At Dawn - Another Day

I row my boat on the creek most mornings at dawn...and a front is coming through.

Summer will be over before we know it. Fall will be quickly upon us and I will be swapping out my shorts and t-shirt for some bib overalls and cap. I have been thinking about how our workspace either can improve our productivity or diminish it. Working productively is the biggest goal of most of my clients and myself (although I hardly sit at a desk all day I fully understand the nuances of a good chair). Being able to focus (and stay focused) has the most impact on how much you get done and how much you make.

Where you work has one of the biggest impacts on how well you work. Have you thought about the design of your office? Whether you work at home most of the time or in a large company environment, your space plays a huge role in your productivity. I'm not talking about just making your office pretty, and functional. I'm talking about producing results and getting things done. No one wants to spend any more time in their office than they have to when they could be boating, dining with friends, or on an awesome getaway on Necker Island. I mean one can dream, right?

Gensler (Research Company) found that the most important factor in increasing productivity is designing your space. Productivity starts when you enter your office. I know if I leave my studio a mess the night before, work the next morning is a bit slow to start. Being productive starts the moment we enter our space. Actually, it is a fact that a well-designed office will increase your productivity by about 20%. Heck, that's like 3 more chairs a month I could craft. Despite the studies, however, not many employers consider workplace design a good business investment (except Google of course). As your friend, I encourage you to prep your office space for the fall.

According to LifeHack your desk and chair are one of the most important aspects to focus on when developing your office space. I actually really love this quote, "If you’ve ever sat at a desk to do work but found yourself adjusting, stretching and moving too often to actually stay focused, then you’re aware of the importance of having a correctly fitted table and chair. In today’s work environment where so many of us are sitting for most of our day, it is critical that your throne fits your body probably." So if your looking for some really good tips on designing your office for better productivity go read LifeHacks 15 Office Design Tricks That Will Increase Your Productivity Work.

I don't know if you're aware but I craft a custom chair that is perfectly ergonomic to help you be your most productive self,  I even craft custom desks to match... check out some video here.

Custom Office Chair

Apartment Therapy wrote about the 6 things to look for when picking out a home office chair and as an office chair expert it's a pretty good post. I love that it simplifies, basically, what I do when I formulate a chair to fit my clients.

I know I'm kind of putting a dampener on your summer festivities but the fall is fastly approaching and it's never a better time to start thinking about those long fall hours most of us put in. At least you will have an office, and a custom office chair* to get you started.

*Order now to have your chair by next fall...I know I know I usually have a rather lengthy list of clients waiting for custom chairs and furniture. But the good news is that the sooner you get your order in the sooner you get your chair.
